Under new leadership since 2022, the City of Trinity’s Finance Department has achieved notable recognition at the national level, earning three prestigious awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. As of 2023, the City of Trinity is one of only 19 entities in North Carolina honored as a GFOA Triple Crown Winner.
This distinction reflects the City's commitment to financial excellence, transparency, and accountability, demonstrated through receipt of the following awards:
-
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
-
Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award
-
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
These accolades underscore the Finance Department’s unwavering commitment to excellence in public financial management. In addition to national recognition, the department continues to make meaningful progress in strengthening the fiscal health of the City’s Sewer Fund, demonstrating responsible stewardship and strategic financial planning.
The Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA) has a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award program that recognizes high-quality budget documents that meet program criteria and strive to improve budget transparency in their community. The City of Trinity's Finance Department received its first Budget Award on September 23, 2022 under new executive leadership. Recognized nationally for the 3rd consecutive years, the Finance Department has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
We were notified on September 17, 2024, by the Government Finance Officers Association, that upon the City’s first submission, we have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award. The GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Also, we were notified on October 31, 2024, by the Government Finance Officers Association, that upon the City’s first submission, we have been awarded the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award. The GFOA Certificate for Popular Annual Financial Award encourages municipalities to produce high quality, easy to read, accessible, and easily understandable financial reports to the general public. This document is created in such a way so that individuals without a background in public finance could understand the City's financial position.
